Become Independently Wealthy!

Never work in retail just a fair warning to all of you out there that are looking for a summer job or for something extra to pay the bills. Or least not work for a major company that is easy to get hired on.  I hate my job with a freakin’ passion.  I used to love it; I used to want to move up in the company to become someone within the chain.  But things have changed so much since I first started working there that I doubt anyone wants to work there longer a year before they quit.
First they cut down the management positions but added another layers…We had the associates which were under the department managers which were under the assistants who were under the co-managers which was then under the manager.   Every department had a department manager, now some of them had sub-departments but nothing huge.  Then we started losing profit from the company as whole not just our store so they began a revamping of the company instead of having a ‘market team’ made up of ten people they dropped down to only four.  What the market team did, which they got paid a lot of money for (six digits) they made it so that each store would have eight of them doing what they did only now they are getting an eighth of what they were paid to do.
They made this new position that you had to go through to become an assistant which is where salary begins.  Then they cut all the department managers.  In my honest opinion they began this with all the older associates that had been there for 25+ years that were making more than entry level assistance where making.  So each department manager now has at least two departments all the way up to fifteen departments with sub-departments.  Needless to say that person that has fifteen departments isn’t doing so well.
So…to my problem….now that they cut all the department managers down there are less opportunities to move up.  Now you can’t just going into the training program you have to go through the right channels to get there and then even then you practically have to be the manager’s pet to even get a recommendation to move up.  This all start about a year ago.  I started going back to school a couple months after that.   I will never ever work in retail again.  Too much stress on someone that doesn’t even get paid to do the job they do now.
When you’re stressed you say things that you normally don’t do under normal circumstances, so now I am a cashier.  I really don’t want to toot my own horn but I’ve worked there for almost 6 years I know the ins and outs better than most of the co-managers there yet I am in a position that I am over qualified for because I wasn’t the managers pet.  They wanted to ‘fire me’ but they technically didn’t have the grounds to fire me without me going to Home office, so they just did one step back, they sent me to a position that sucks monkey….
